What you turn to when you cannot turn anywhere else
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
Addiction is a counterfeit comfort — a real ache met with a false answer. Freedom does not come by white-knuckling; it comes by letting the real Comforter meet the real ache. Every temptation has an exit; God always provides one.
“Father, You see what I turn to when I cannot turn to You. I confess [name] as a counterfeit comfort. Heal the ache underneath. Show me the way out You have already prepared, and give me the strength to take it.”
Identify the ache that drives the behaviour (loneliness, shame, anxiety, exhaustion). Write it down. Speak Hebrews 4:16 aloud: 'Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.' Choose ONE trusted person to tell within 48 hours — secrecy is addiction's oxygen.
What real need have you been trying to meet with a counterfeit answer?
Scripture multiplies when it is passed person to person. If someone you love needs these words today, send it.
