Walking in the Spirit

Bearing fruit, not forcing growth

Scripture Anchor
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
Galatians 5:22-25
Written Meaning

Fruit is grown, not manufactured. You cannot strain to be patient or strive to be kind — you can only abide. The Spirit's life produces His character in those who keep step with Him.

A Prayer to Pray

“Holy Spirit, I want Your fruit, not my striving. Teach me to keep in step with You today — at the kettle, at the till, in traffic, with the one who tries my patience.”

One Practice

Pick one fruit you most lack this week (say, gentleness). At each provocation, pause, breathe, and pray a single line: 'Holy Spirit, gentleness, now.' Note in the evening where He answered.

Reflection

Which fruit of the Spirit have you been trying to manufacture instead of receive?
